Why linux is not ready yet

A few days ago I while I was trying Debian Linux in my macbook I was thinking in moving completely to the Linux Platform. I was thinking in buying a Lenovo or a Toshiba because I was very exited about all the possibilities that a open platform would allow me. Modifying all the files the way I wanted. Complete safety about how all my information was managed. No more obscure bugs that had to wait months to be solved. Faster version updates and of course the almost complete absense of privative expensive software.

Unfourtunately for Linux when I came back to Mac OS X and started using all of the great software available like Bento, iTunes, Safari, Widgets and all of these working very good together I remembered why linux is not so popular. Is not completely ready for consumer use. Is very good, in many cases is better than windows indeed but maybe not as good as Mac OS X in some aspects. Such as the user interface. There are also some apps which stop me from going to Linux completely like Bento or all the great integration with ical and agenda with the operating system.

I think linux community has to develop more standards instead of going everywhere to a different directions with the thousands of distributions there are. Too much separatism I think
