Blogging started to become a important part of the web in 2002. Not officially but in those years people started to pay blogs attention. As more and more people wondered what a blog was; they started experimenting. They went to blog.com(or whatever other free blogging service came on its way) created a blog and after a few days they abandoned it. Only a few of this blogs survived more than a couple months. And the ones that did gaved up because nobody read them. The reason of this, I think, was the lack of importance people gave to this things. They saw them like a toy. And they did not cared too much what they posted or when they posted.
- Lack of motivation. People hate to be ignored. Even if they say the opposite. When some one listens to us we feel great. If you have had a blog; what did you felt when you had your first comment? I felt great, this is not my first blog, but in the first I made was on blogger.com and was about what I read, mostly. I even remember the post on which I received my first comment “Harry Potter”It was this post about why I did not wanted to read Harry Potter, which I ended up reading. But the feeling that something acutally though it was worth reading your article was amazing. Of course I received only a copule comments on my blog so I quited. But I’m sure that if I have had more comments and would’ve known that traffic is also important I would have probably sticked to it.
- Zero Inspiration.Sometimes you just sit in front of your computer and you don’t know what to write. You simply can’t come up with an idea. Thank fully Darren Rowse has the solution. It has worked pretty fine for me. But this is a problem first time bloggers have a lot.
- No time! Many people say that they have no time to update their blog. Maybe its true. But I think 99% of people spend at least 2 hours a day doing unnecessary stuff. And by saying unnnecesary stuff I mean things that do not add anything positive to their lives. I think some TV shows are worth watching but spending 3 - 4 hours in front of the TV? Or maybe you are a workaholic. I work only during school vacations, but I have tried working in part time jobs and let me tell you keeping up school and work is really, really difficult. But when I saw in blogs a monetizing potential I started thinking in blogging as a part time job. Something that I could make at home and could help me earning some dollars. There is where I started thinking in blogging as something more serious.
- Lack of discipline. Blogging is hard. It takes time. It involves searching, reading, and sometimes is disapointing. But when we are perseverant we can get great benefits, and I’m not talking only economically benefits. But with so many detractors it is so dificult to keep up. Especially if you are not used to deal with difficulties. I have learned this by myself, so many quiting experiences made me convince myself that I was not good for this job. But my grandma help me deal with this, she does not know anything about blogging, the only thing she knows to do in the computer is chat with her daughter. But she helped me understand the value of perseverance.
- I don’t see any money! When people get involved in the internet they start wondering how they can make easy money. So much stories about people getting rich easily online make wonder if they can do the same. I think this is becoming less relevant as people start find out what a lie this is. Some people think that by getting a blogger account, getting a adsense account and writing some good content they will start gaining some bucks easily. That is not absolutely not true. You get normally from one to two dollars for a thousand pageviews. Getting such amount of traffics is not easy if your starting.
As I said in my post “Are microblogging services a lost of time?” People look for instant gratification. Is part of our human nature. I think is will and not intelligency what differentiate us from animals. We can control our actions, wether animal do everything by instinct. That is why we can have all this knowledge available. I don’t think this as the Information Era, this is more like the Opinion era, everyone can say what they think, is our decision wether we hear it or not. At least in “developed countries” and other not so developed.I hope one day everyone has the right and the chance to communicate their opinions freely. That is what blogging is all about isn’t? And people who have the right and have the chance to do it: Don’t waste it! There are people in the world who don’t have the chance to do so.
